basileIE is the second art gallery for Paul, who previously owned and operated Basile Gallery in downtown’s East Village neighborhood for 12 years. It is also a return to Barrio Logan for Paul, who fell in love with the neighborhood and its rich history and culture and decided 10 years ago to open his own restaurant, The Guild, on Newton Avenue.

His continued appreciation of art that makes people think, that possesses meaning and simplicity, motivated his decision to create a new art space dedicated to this kind of work. Paul, owner and principal of Basile Studio, launched basileIE as a place to work and collaborate with other artists outside of his studio design work. In doing so, he hopes the gallery will help forge a broader synergistic community here in San Diego.

Following a long and happy childhood of intense doodling (skulls, dragons, robots, barbarians, demon dogs etc.) contemporary artist c.martino began creating in earnest after receiving his MBA in International Business and going to work for global consulting giant Accenture. Martino has been chasing the muse ever since, shuttling between Los Angeles and San Diego while creating and curating a diverse body of provocative contemporary work that excites, inspires and drives discussion.

Martino is a closet conceptualist embracing the tools and techniques of contemporary painting, sculpture and art-making to create and curate compelling work that seeks to transform the mundane into the magical in an increasingly generic, prepackaged world of mini-malls, master-planned communities and bad reality tv.

In addition to curating BasileIE, Martino is also the owner of art services firm CM Curatorial.
